Shelter Operations Staff

We’re looking for dedicated and compassionate Shelter Operations Staff members to join our team and support our mission of providing a safe, regulated, and temporary residential option with access to essential resources for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the shelter, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all guests.
  • Provide direct support and maintain accurate records.
  • Offer guidance, routine and resources to guests, helping them access essential services.
  • Foster a positive and respectful atmosphere, ensuring guests feel valued and heard.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to create an effective, compassionate shelter environment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience of minimum 5 years in a Social Services setting preferred
  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Experience in social services, shelter work, or corrections is a plus.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective boundaries with colleagues, guests, volunteers

Housing Case Manager

We are looking for experienced and energetic people to join our amazing team and take a leading role as a Housing and Outreach Case Manager.

We provide a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment by meeting the essential needs that better allow individuals to identify their goals both with on-site and outreach case managers and through referrals, to actively participate in outcomes such as sustainable housing plans, better health care, and opportunities for long term personal growth. Join us in our mission as we face and take on the continued demand for complex social service support in Addison County.

The successful candidate will be passionate about the delivery of essential services and improving people’s lives by respectfully endorsing their strengths and regularly working alongside with those we serve. Case Managers must be experienced and highly organized. Responsibilities will include assisting our shelter guests and outreach clients with tasks that directly support long-term housing plans, including needs assessments, completion of applications to access housing, benefits such as SNAP, medical insurance, social security/disability, employment and training opportunities, health care, professional counseling and other human services referrals. Understanding and support of those experiencing trauma, housing and food insecurities are a must for this role. Familiarity with Coordinated Entry preferred. Proven ability to maintain service records that meet regulation and compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Passionate about our mission and able to confidently promote and communicate the philosophy, mission and values associated with removing the many layers of stigma surrounding the vulnerable population(s) we serve to both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years dedicated to case management in a social service setting.
  • Familiarity of the Coordinated Entry platform serving unhoused and at-risk individuals and households nationwide.
  • Demonstration of professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have incredible integrity, positive energy, urgency, and the ability to model appropriate boundaries.
  • Common sense, grit and works diligently.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently, as well as within a team.
  • Strong environmental and mental organization.
  • Familiarity with homelessness, mental health and substance use.

The Housing Case Manager consistently works cooperatively with all other Charter House staff, outside service providers, partner agencies, and volunteers. This role is Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm. Experience specific to navigating the complicated systems that support affordable housing is required for this role.

Pay and Benefits:

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 – $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
