The Charter House Shelter

The Winter Warming Shelter is a housing facility that serves as an emergency home for up to 24 adult men and women from October 15 through April 22. It is staffed 24/7 by trained volunteers and awake overnight staff who provide a warm, welcoming environment. We provide a safe place to sleep, linens, dinner, and breakfast. Farm-to-Table

Farm-to-Table, one of Charter House Coalition’s newest projects, grows and distributes About 5000 pounds of fresh produce each year. Volunteers work on donated land at the Nash Farm in New Haven. After harvest, the produce is used in Charter House Coalition’s food programs, donated to local food shelves and made available to those who attend the Community Suppers and Community Lunches. Farm-to-Table brings fresh, local produce to those who need food assistance and teaches environmentally responsible farming and food preservation techniques to volunteers.

Community Suppers

This program provides a free supper for 200 people every Friday evening.  Each year, more than 35 organizations host a supper. In the past year, 37 different organizations hosted a supper. The volunteers prepare and serve the supper from 5:00 to 6:15 pm. The Community Suppers are open to everyone and serve the multiple roles of providing nutritious meals to those who need them and a welcoming setting for community members to gather and connect. Click here for meal schedule.

Community Lunches

This free lunch program provides meals about 55 people every Monday through Thursday. Volunteers prepare and serve the lunches from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm. From September through May, Community Lunches are served at St. Stephen’s on Mondays and at Charter House on Tuesdays through Thursdays. During the summer, Community Lunches are served Monday through Thursday at Charter House. The lunches are open to everyone, providing a regular nutritious meal and a comfortable setting for people from many different parts of the community to get to know one another. Click here for meal schedule.
